Kathryn Horntvedt

I was a student of Sue Leonard from first through twelve grades in Rochester, Minnesota, performing in all levels of MMTA’s Honors Concerts, participating in numerous local festivals, and winning National Guild honors for ten years.  I am also a soprano, and my Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Pacific Lutheran University includes a strong piano background.  My other piano teachers have included Nancy Paddleford, Sharon Kleinheizen-Jensen, Richard Farner, Judy Nessan, Rie Ando, Craig Sheppard, Sharon Clark, and Horacio Nuguid.  I have 31 years' teaching experience in Washington and Minnesota, where I have been an active member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) through my local chapters and state organizations, as well as becoming a nationally certified teacher of music (NCTM).  I have enjoyed performing as a soloist, giving full recitals in 2007 and 2016, and participating in Daniel Pollack's annual master class in Seattle. I am the president and treasurer of the Rochester Area Keyboard Club and serve as the facilitator of its Young Musicians of Southeast Minnesota recital series.  Other experience has included singing with the Seattle Symphony Chorale, the Tacoma Symphony Chorus, and the Cathedral Choral Society at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, and performing as a soprano soloist in PLU’s Early Music concert series and Handel’s Messiah in Auburn, Washington.
